Aloha and Congratulations on Your Upcoming Wedding!

We are Scott Hughes and Teruko Terry and we’d love nothing more than to be the photographers chosen to capture your Hawaii wedding day. Please check out the About page to learn more about who we are and why we are exceptionally qualified to photograph your Hawaiian wedding. We’ve also put together a list of FAQ’s, which you can see by scrolling down this page.

All weddings are unique, but over the years we’ve been able to create packages and service levels that suit 99% of the people we work with. Prices range from the most affordable coverage – a small intimate wedding, starting at $600 for an hour-long ceremony – to full/multi day coverage for large gala weddings. We do it all. Our resort packages are done in partnership with some of the top resorts on Maui, and pricing and services reflect resort policy. We specialize in Maui weddings but can and do cover ceremonies on any of our beautiful Hawaiian Islands.

Getting Married in Hawaii

We’re happy to accommodate a simple one-hour sunset beach ceremony, yet also offer more extensive event coverage: from the rehearsal dinner to the last toast at a full-on reception that rocks on into the night. Our clients are married at private estates, on public beaches, mountaintops, aboard boats and in chapels. Visit our photo Galleries for examples of intimate photos of brides preparing for the ceremony, guests mingling, family group photos, post-ceremony portraits, and wedding reception celebrations. We’re happy help you determine the level of coverage that you require. Be sure to ask about our Kama’aina Discounts!

We find most couples invest in our professionally designed wedding day PhotoBooks and invite you to look through some examples in our Galleries. This is a keepsake piece that you will share with friends and turn to again and again over the years to re-live this day.

Scott,

I cannot thank you enough for your amazing talent. The photos are absolutely beautiful. The book is wonderful… Everyone who looks at it is so impressed with your photos and the book itself. You do such an excellent job. Thank you for capturing every detail to keep our memories alive of a perfect day. You have the ability to bring out the emotions and uniqueness in each photo. When I look at them I feel as I did the day it was happening. That is true art. Thank you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why should we select Hughes PhotoGraphics to be our photographers?

A. Because you expect stunning wedding photography, guaranteed coverage, and an enjoyable, professional experience!

x

Q: Who will photograph our wedding? Is it Scott or do you hire others?

A: Hughes PhotoGraphics is Scott and Teruko. See our About page for more information. All events are photographed by us, both capturing images individually, and at times, working together on a particular shot. All of the photography seen on our website was created by Scott and/or Teruko.

x

Q: How many photographs will you take of our wedding?

A: The quantity of exposures and different poses varies, depending on the activities of your day, how many friends and guests are in attendance and the level of coverage you select. Our different photographic packages were designed for various sized events. If you select the suitable level of photography, you can be assured that coverage of your wedding will be appropriate.

Call us to discuss the details, but rest assured that hundreds and hundreds of quality images will be created. We do not hold back when photographing a wedding.

x

Q: Photography is very important to us. We’re curious, from a photographer’s point of view, what is the best time to have our wedding ceremony?

A: There are many variables which effect your ceremony time, but portraits of the bride and groom look best during that last hour leading up to sunset, a time photographers call “The Golden Hour” for the stunning effect of natural golden light on people and landscape.

Looking at the images on the web site, all but a few were made within an hour or two of sunset. The look would be considerably different if made in harsh, midday sunlight.

If you like the look of our work, consider a sunset ceremony, meaning a couple of hours prior to actual sunset.

x

Q: What if you have an equipment malfunction at our wedding?

A: We bring four camera bodies and redundant back ups for all crucial tools. Our goal is to fully capture your wedding day, which is a challenge if the only camera body goes down.

x

Q: How soon can we see our pictures?

A: Your photography is available a day or two following your event.

x

Q: What type of camera will be used at our wedding?

A: We use Canon’s professional line, the 1-Series. No consumer grade hardware here. The 1Ds MkII, 1D MkIII, a 5D MarkII and the 1D MarkII are our primary cameras, while a second 1Ds MarkII is a ‘reserve’.

x

Q: Do you retouch the photos?

A: All images selected to be made as prints, small to large, and those which become part of your Art Book are enhanced to the same level as our Gallery Portraits. We create beautiful photos, and treat each wedding as if it was to become our portfolio.

x

Q: Are the digital files included in our photo package?

A: The high-resolution files are available, although not included in our book or album coverage levels.

For individuals proficient in working with high-resolution images, the digital files are available. Please call Scott for details.

x

Q: Can you photograph in Black and White as well as color? What about toned prints?

A: Certainly! As a long time black and white printer, Scott feels that B&W images can actually remove the distraction of color and allow the viewer to appreciate another kind of beauty.

Black and White, a brown/sepia tone, and spot color options are available at no additional charge.

x

Q: What if you become ill and unable to photograph my wedding?

A: Although Scott or Teruko have yet to miss a wedding, we have strong relationships with other quality photographers and provide support to one another if such a situation should arise.

x

Q: We’ve never been to Hawaii before. Can you recommend a beautiful beach or special island location for our wedding ceremony?

A: You bet we can. We’ve shot weddings at all the great beach locations on Maui, and many other Hawaiian Islands as well. Call us with your ideas and we’d be happy to make suggestions!
